Questions About project V
Thumbnail Process
1) Describe the method you used to begin your creative process.
I first thought what i was going to make a picture for and then decide how i could use mud spelling out whatever it was that i was using for a poster (which was earthday). From there i made my sketches with the ideas i had.
2) Share your thoughts about your choice of typeface (i.e., Helvectica, Times)?
I wanted to use something without Serifs, i thought it would be more simple and earthday is a laid back, friendly kind of day. i chose century gothic in a bold weight. it was easy to read on the picture and it matched the font of the logo.
3) Did you have a pre-conceived idea of a design when you began each of the thumbnails or did you experiment and discover visual concepts?
yes i did. This project wasnt something i could just practice doodling with or just playing around on the computer with because we were using actual 3d materials.
4) Explain how you involved experimentation with they any of the effects of gravity, weight, tension, perspective, movement, positive, and negative space.
I used positive and negative space in my final comp, i used the negative space to spell out the letters while mud surrounded it in the positive space. I used weight making the letter thick enough to read. Perspective i experimented with when taking my photo, i took pictures from all different angles, but that was pretty much it.
5) What do you believe to be the strenghts and weaknesses of each of your thumbnail sketches?
The strenght is that they were realistic ideas and it wasnt that hard to come up with an actual picture from the thumbnail that i choose. The weakness is that i feel like they all kind of looked the same, and that there was a better way to incorporate earth day into them.
Final Composition Process
1) What are your thoughts about choosing the thumbnail that you did? Why is it your best choice?
I choose the thumbnail that i thought would be the most interesting and use most of my material (mud). It was fun splattering it all over the boards and i think the thumbnail i used went along mostly with my earth day theme.
Lessons Learned
1) What have you learned in the creation of this design? was there anything that you learned about the way that you began this project or the methods you used while developing the design?
I first took my photos, trying to set up something that was very similair to my thumbnail sketches. I learned that things cant always come out how you picture them though, so i had to work with how my pictures came out. My finished comp came out good and i like it its just not what i was picturing from when i started this project.
2) List the technical thing you learned while in this process.
i didnt learn anything new really, except playing around with the spacing and hieght of the font.
